It seems like yesterday that I wrote about the difference between being read to and reading to yourself. Today, we face a constant stream of alarming, contradictory, and misleading claims about technology that will kill you, conflict that really isn’t a conflict, its ok to buy your vote, and if you can’t pay your bills then you are ok financially. The Latin phrase “tabula rasa” means “clean slate,” and that is what many Americans may need during a period of information overload. A deliberate reset can help the brain observe, interpret, and process information with greater clarity. Here is one way to begin:
When you wake up DON’T pick up your phone and read the headlines.
- Stretch to release the tension in your body from sleeping.
- Appreciate yourself for all that you do.
- Let the first words out of your mouth convey a positive statement.
- Now you have a fighting chance against the BS that’s about to come out of your phone.
Following this routine may help create a calmer, more intentional start to the day. Its effects can vary by individual, so consider observing whether it improves your focus, stress level, or overall well-being over time.
